Will slower internet speed infect Airplay to Apple TV?

Will slower internet speed make macbook airplay to apple tv lagging? Or it doesn't have anything to do with my internet but my router speed instead?

I am experiencing some lagging issue when i try to airplay or mirror something(like a video clip) from my iphone/imac/macbook to apple tv, i am wondering if it has something to do with my slow internet speed? Or maybe is because my router speed is not good enough to keep up with the airplay, which has nothing to do with my internet speed since airplay doesn't use internet, it uses wifi to transfer data to apple tv only. So yea i just want to know which one of those two things r dragging down the airplay speed, my internet speed or my router speed?

AIrplay mirroring is very taxing on your wifi network since it must update the tv in real time with no buffering or you would notice the delay. If the content of the video is coming from the internet, then your internet speed would also come into play. When watching a movie from iOS I would not turn on the mirror option and just use Airplay. If the player app supports it, the image does not appear on the iOS device and it acts as a server allowing buffering to occur. This should yield better performance.
