Q: iMessage not activating

So last night around 11 I turned off my iMessage for about a minute then turned it right back on, except when I turned it back in it said "waiting for activation" and would not allow me to use iMessage. I have had this probelm before and it has fixed itself within an hour or so, however this time this did not happen. I have been trying different things all day and looking things up online to fix my problem however no luck. I have tried absolutely everything from adjusting the time, to putting my phone on airplane mode to resetting it. One post suggested I also turn off FaceTime and then restart my device, so I tried that and now my facetime is also saying "waiting for activation" and neither work. my cell phone number is grey and it will not allow me to click on it for both iMessage and FaceTime now and this is becoming very frusturating. I have a fairly new (about a year old) iphone 5s which is even more irritating as it is so new and I spent so much money on this.
