Could not Add Card - Visa

I have tried on multiple occasions to access the Apple Pay feature on my iPhone 6s. Every time I try to add my card it notifies me that it "Could not Add Card". I would much appreciate any insight on this. Thank you!

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.2.1, I have a Wells Fargo Visa Debit car

I'm guessing that you have tried the troubleshooting in this support document? Get help using Apple Pay - Apple Support

The error message is coming up when you tap on the add button? What other troubleshooting have you tried?

Yes, I have been through that support document, however, only the region section is relevant, as all the other steps relate to those who can get past my particular sticking point.

The phone is fully updated, and has been throughout this process. I've done a full data reset on the phone, but no change. I really can't think of anything else to try, and I've been met with the suggestion to contact my card issuer at every turn, short of the Genius Bar, which is a no-go with my present travel schedule.

The message does indeed appear right after selecting the add button. It never gets to the card-scanning step.

Could this possibly be a hardware issue? Seems unlikely.

Edit: I've noticed since resetting the phone my other business card is now gone as well. Same situation as before on adding a card though. Weirdly enough, my Apple watch still displays the card.

It wouldn't seem to be a hardware issue, as the software is what starts out the process. The hardware would only be for the final payment step.

Are you trying to add the card straight from the Wallet app, or are you doing it in Settings>Wallet & Apple Pay>Add Credit or Debit Card? Do you see the first splash screen and then the Next button in the upper right? Does it go to the Camera to "see" the card, or does it error out before that?

Not sure exactly what you mean when you say a full data reset on the phone? Not sure what step you are trying to identify. If you could explain what you did, that would help. User troubleshooting steps include restart (turning device off/on), reset (holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The device will reboot. This will not affect your content), restore from backup(make sure you have created a current backup before this step), restore to factory(which will erase all content). You should test after each step. Let's see how far you have gotten. If you get to restore to factory, make sure you test before adding any additional content on the device.

Both, with the same result: Slight pause, rotating gear symbol, then error message. No other prompts.

Errors out prior to that.

I executed a restore from backup. Sorry for the confusing info.

Try to restore the device to factory, without adding any additional content. Test the Wallet then and see if it works. It could be some corrupt data on the device, and that is just being brought back over when you restore your backup. If it works, then sync your data back manually, without using your backup. See if this corrects your issue.

While I could not see a hardware error stopping the adding of cards, my thoughts it would prevent the use of Apple Pay. However, if you still have problems after the factory restore, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store to have it looked at.

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the same problem. I can add all but one card to Apple Pay. The card that will not work is a Capital One Visa card. The problem occurred for me after I restored my phone from a backup—I had to add all of my cards back to Apple Pay.

I have done every troubleshooting step I can think of, and I have been advised by Capital One and Apple phone support. Capital One is "escalating the issue" and I have to wait 7-10 business days for an answer (usually do not have luck with escalations), so I thought I'd see if anyone had any other suggestions.

The problem is only with this one card. It worked with Apple Pay fine before the restore and now I get the error message "Can Not Add Card. Try again later or contact your card issuer for more information."

The more advanced troubleshooting steps I have taken are as follows:

Erased all content and settings, restore from iCloud backup

Erased all content and settings, restore from oldest iCloud backup

Erased all content and settings, restore from iTunes backup

Erased all content and settings and tried adding the card before restoring from a backup

Put my phone in to DFU mode and then reinstalled iOS 10 from iTunes, then restored from iTunes backup. I was trying to downgrade the iOS back to 9.3, but I was only given the option to download to iOS 10.

Tried adding my card to a different iPhone running iOS 10 and also iOS 9.3. I can add my other cards to these devices, but not this Capital One card.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated!

If you have addressed the issue with Apple, I cannot see anything additional that I can provide. Have you tried removing another card and then trying to add this one you are having a problem with? It seems you have done everything I can think of, especially if you have used the link I provided earlier and spoke to Apple and the bank.
