Q: Feedback Experience - How to migrate XServes 10.6

Hi,

We are using 2 XServes (last generation, running 10.6.8) for about 80 people.

First one is Master Open Directory and is providing MCX (like mobility accounts) services for users

Second one is Slave Open Directory and share AFP/SMB Directories.

Today we are facing a double problem (hardware and software). According to my opinion :

- XServe machines have not been replaced correctly : RAID controller, HDD storage more than 2G...

- Mobility accounts is bugging since 10.9.3 (network home user lead to damaged keychains - still no fix since Mavericks)

Does anyone, who were in the same case, has solved this problematic :

Hardware replacement, mobility account

In my topology, mobility accounts are used to synchronize Users Home Directory in order to:

- backup every night /Users of the XServe on LTO Cartridge

(replica of each users home directory on XServe when they logout)

- quickly restore user environment on new machine if crash

(just need to login, home re-sync automatically)

- users can open a session on any machine of the domain

(XServe is centralizing all users datas)

Thanks for your feedback experience

Xserve, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
