Even though I have plenty of space it says my Startup Disk is full and then laptop slowly freezes. Advice? Thanks

I've cleaned out just about every large file on my HD (OSX 10.9) - no large movie or anything, but I continue to be hobbled by a "Startup Disk Full" message.

I would appreciate some guidance from those who know more. Thanks, christina
