file vault on mac mini with hdd and ssd

Hi all,

I have a mac mini late 2012 with a 26 Gb ssd and an 1Tb hdd

the ssd contains the OSX but some system data are routed in the HDD to free space in the ssd.

I would encrypt my data to avoid someone to access them moreover when I bring the mac mini to the Apple store for repairing. In this case I always create a new user account for the apple store repair.

Using file vault should encrypt both the drives or only the OSX one? time machine back up both... so??

I thank you all for the replies.

File Vault only encrypts the startup disk. You have to separately encrypt data disks and time Machine backup
