It is now "hung" at 27 minutes remaining on the installation. It never completes, it just gives off an alarm beep and restarts. What can I do? more

if you have any 3rd party device or and USB device other than the original mouse and keyboard (see my note about the RAM in this post) I suggest removing them and trying to reinstall. If this continues the fail I'd be pointing to the HD as the most likely culprit, and far less expensive to replace if it's a logic board.
the 2002F error btw is telling you the Mac can not reach an Apple server, possibly there is an issue with wireless but this should not be happening if you use the installer CD. If you have a router move connect with an ethernet cable at the time of the install.
