Location awareness--only working with wireless?

I have 2014 iMac 5K with El Capitan 10.11.3 and it and some other computers and printers on my home network are connected to wired Gb ethernet and not using wireless--just because it gives me the fastest transfer rate. My ISP is Comcast. If I use Maps or other applications or websites that want to know my location, I keep getting popups that tell me I have to be using wireless, not wired, and I invariably have to type in my own address, instead of it just being detected.

Since whether wired or wireless, the data connection is coming from the wireless LinkSys router connected to my Comcast modem in my house, WHY do all the programs insist that I be using wireless?

Thanks!

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, Core i7 4 GHz,
