Q: iTunes issues

I migrated from a W8.1 laptop to Macbook Air last year. Since my iTunes library was rather large, and the Macbook SSD half the size of the W8.1 HDD, I decided to move the iTunes library to an external USB HDD and to keep it NTFS so I could continue to use iTunes on both the Macbook and the W8.1 laptop. Good decision on my part. Several months ago I started having App Store issues on my iPad Air. Some Apps would no longer update on the iPad, remaining in some zombie state as far as the App store was concerned. I figured out that if I updated these Apps on my Macbook (or W8.1 laptop), then sync'd the iPad, I got past the problem.

Today, having three apps on the iPad that won't update, I tried updating them on the Macbook. First, it asked for my Apple ID three or four times, then hung with a "Accessing iTunes Store" message (and a Stop button). I gave up on it and switched over to the W8.1 laptop. It started out with an error about two recently downloaded (to the iPad only) apps, which I ignored, but did not ask for my Apple ID. I am able to update the problem apps but each one takes forever to complete. If I were to click Update All Apps it would take days, and the process has no indication, other than Update changing to Updating, of any progress taking place. Meanwhile, other updates are available on the iPad, and they seem to be updating okay, and a a decent speed with visual indication of progress.

So, in summary, not a question, just a rant - or the question why is iTunes so bad?

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), also old iPod Touch
