Q: Using Migration Assistant on Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz

I've just purchased a new Macbook Pro 25 GHz to replace my aging Powerbook G4 1.67 GHz (PowerPC) running OS X 10.4.11. The new Macbook has OS X El Capitan loaded and I need to transfer all my files, pictures, emails etc. from my old laptop. The sales guy said that I should be able to use the Macbook Pro Migration Assistant via Wifi  on initial startup to transfer everything.

I'm just a little dubious whether this is possible, as Apple suggest that OS X 10.6.8 is required. I don't want to attempt this and end up corrupting the new Macbook Pro. I know that I can use an external hard drive and drag & drop files, pictures etc but how I can transfer email and other settings, I'm not sure.

Appreciate any advice on this procedure.

If both computers can connect wired or wirelessly to your home network, the you can turn on File Sharing on the PB to access files. I just don't know if this works because your PB is sort of old. You may need to install Leopard for it to work.

Rather than that why not take the HDD out of the PB, but it into an external enclosure with USB ;ports. Connect to the new computer and use Migration Assistant to import your data. If you happen to have a Time Machine backup of the PB, then you can also migrate from the backup drive.
