Final Cut % issue

I'm trying to load Final Cut Pro 5 into my iMac with OS X El Capitan and keep getting the error message "The installation failed" "The installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install".

This is NEW Final Cut Pro 5 never used! I have the I-7 processor with 8 Gig and 2 TB hard drive. Any help would be great! Thinking about installing older version of OS X but don't know which one to install or if that would work.

Thank you,

Jon

I suggest that you post this in the Final Cut Studio discussions.

This is the Final Cut Pro X discussion forum and while this application shares the same name as FCP 5, it is completely different.

Depending on whether you have 5.0 (PPC only) or 5.1, there may be a way to install it on a recent Mac. But regardless, even 5.1 will require a work-around and the folks that contribute to the FCS discussions will know.

Good luck.

Yes, but even if you go trough the machinations of overcoming the installation problem, you are still attempting to run an application on an OS that is light years away from the OS the software was originally designed to run on.

Deciding if using software that may become unstable, erratic, and unpredictable - and which is now completely unsupported by its maker - rests with the OP, but it's hard to understand why someone would want to put themselves through that given all the other pressures of the post production process.

Yes, and here's the solution to that...for people running FCP 6 and 7. FCP 5.0 won't do it no matter what, it was designed for PPC only. FCP 5.1 was the first version to work on Intels, as Meg mentioned.

Final Cut Pro Installation CD doesn't open

,

The software is EXTREMELY old and can't handle any of the new camera or formats out there today. Really only good for DV, HDV and DVCPRO HD. Can't even read ProRes, the default format for the later versions of the app.

Best not to try to keep using this. It's too old.
