Repair disk failed

Hello kind people,

Since I upgraded my OS to El Capitan, my internal disk gave me headache. Suddenly I can't get in into the system, which I mean when I turn on my laptop, the logo comes, then loading for long time before it turns off. I redid and same thing happened. I can't log in. Then I tried to go Disk Utility, repair but it is failed. From what I know I can erase my hd, format then reinstall but it also means I will loose all my super important data. I don't want it.

What should I do? How could I restore my data to external disk from disk utility?

Thank you very much. I appreciate a lot.

Hi Nadiaratna:

Sometimes Disk Warrior may be able to help. http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/

It is not free, but it is the same program Apple uses to diagnose your hard drive.

It sounds like your hard drive may have failed.

You could try putting your hard drive in an external case http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Ntk=Primary&Ns=P_Price%7c0&Ne=5000&N =6430&Ntt=On-The-Go+Kit and try hooking it up to another Mac computer to see if it is readable.

If the internal disk has failed, it is too late for you copy anything from it now.

If the data on the disk has a high enough value to you, you may have to send the failed disk to a data recovery service that might be able to recovery some of the data for you. These service are fairly expensive. They usually have pricing in the $$$$ range for recovery from a fail disk.

Nadiaratna:

Your problem is most likely the hard drive, but sometimes it is the hard drive SATA cable.

You have not indicated what year/model your MacBook Pro is.

Check the following video showing how it can fail. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Amg5w0rlwDo

So depending on what year / model your computer is, this may or may not apply to you.

One test you could try is to move your hard drive from your computer into the external case you have and try restarting your computer and see if you can boot from it externally.
