Q: I can't share image files between computers on our home network

I'm trying to share a few pictures with my wife. We are on the same home network (using the latest El Capitan) and I can easily copy the files to her public folder. She can't open them, however, because she doesn't have "permission". I went through both computers and tried to add us as users on both computers, enabled file sharing etc., to no avail. I can copy them via a flash drive, share them via dropbox, and email them directly to her, and they open fine in every case. What am I doing wrong with the idea of copying them directly from computer to computer.

Thanks,

You may need to rebuild permissions on your wife's user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.
