What's up w/ these lines on my iMac monitor?

I snapped the following pictures with my cell phone, so the clarity will be limited. You can see two vertical lines toward the middle area of the display. A few weeks before, the lower left corner started showing a blotchy area, typically most visible under a gray background. Does anybody have an idea of what the issue is?
