iPhone 6 battery suddenly draining fast

I've had my iPhone 6 since the end of October 2015. Everything has been great, until recently. Suddenly, my battery drains A LOT faster than usual. I never let the percentage get below 50%, and I don't have many apps, the brightness is always halfway, and it's on DND overnight. I have AppleCare, but would they replace the battery or would I have to buy a new phone through applecare? Thanks.

My wife also had the same problem on her iPhone 6 two months ago. Same steps, we turned off background apps and shut off bluetooth and so on and so forth. All the troubleshooting steps Apple mentions online. Which by the way don't make sense because the phone went from working perfectly to all the sudden not being able to hold a charge almost overnight. My wife is not a power user either and has very few apps she actually uses. Anyway I took it to the Apple store and waited in line for a couple of hours and at that point insisted that they replace the battery even if I had to pay full price for the repair which was around a hundred bucks. For me I'd rather pay the 100 bucks to make the problem go away than have to spend half a day standing in line at a crowded Apple store. Anyway, that worked and she hasn't had a problem since.

Also a new map feature showed up recently, or I just started noticing it, 'Show parked location' where the phone is now periodically popping up a notification saying it saved the location of my car. My opinion, there must be some power consuming process running in the background that monitors my phone and decides that I have been in my car and parked it so it can save my location and show me a notification. I turned that off using the switch in the 'Maps' settings window. Will see if that makes a difference. Has anyone else noticed this feature? Is it new or I just didn't notice it before?

my phone is doing this too!

My battery dies less than an hour after full charge to 100% and takes giant leaps forward toward death. For example, battery charged fully overnight, battery meter at 100%, I send a text message, 10 minutes later 80%, make a 5 minute phone call, down to 50%, then scroll the internet for 5 seconds and the "battery power less than 20%, low power mode" option pops up, then i hit ok to choose low power mode and it goes to 1% before my eyes instantly. I plug it in and immediately back to maybe 50%! i'm gonna post this separately to see if maybe there are new responses.

It sounds like the answer is to switch to Android since Apple seems to have gone steadily downhill for the last half-dozen years both in the quality of their products and, especially, in the quality of customer service. My wife's 6s started doing the exact same thing as yours also in September. It now goes from 100% to <15% in a few hours with nothing turned on and no activity on the phone as far as app, calls, etc.

The nearest Apple store is 45-60 minutes away necessitating spending at least a half-day traveling and waiting for the "geniuses" to fix what should be a mail-in, free, fix.

I can buy an Android phone and have it delivered tomorrow with no hassle, less money, and I haven't heard anywhere near the number of problems with service that Apple keeps piling up.

"The problem is a software issues that they have not found a solution to."

Did an Apple rep actually admit to that? Can you provide more information about that part of the conversation? This is such a big and controversial issue, a LOT of people here would be interested in that.

p.s. I'm assuming that you are running IOS11.0.something....No guarantee but you might want to try IOS 11.1 just released yesterday.

I have an iPhone 6. It has worked fine until the past month or so. Recently it'll drop from near fully charged to saying the battery is fully drained in a very short period of time. On Nov. 12, it went for fully charged to saying it was fully drained it about 20 minutes. However, I don't think the battery was actually fully drained. I believe this because when I plugged the phone in, within a few minutes it said it was >90% charged. Something is seriously wrong here. It sounds like a software issue to me, but maybe it is also related to the battery. I noticed that this is most likely to happen when I'm switching from one app to another one. Like today, it did this when I had the Overcast podcast up open and running and then when I switched to the photo app and back to Overcast it crashed and said the battery was fully drained. Maybe it has something to do with one of these apps or with how switching between apps is treated.

Hi everyone,

I'm having the exact same issue. I've run all the updates as Apple Support suggested. They ran a diagnostic on my phone and it passed with flying colours. They then suggested that I "optimize" my battery usage by playing with the settings, and then suggested that I reset and erase my phone and to set it up as a new phone.

A couple weeks after wiping all my information and setting my phone back up the issue has come back. Sudden battery drains and now the screen freezing issue due to temperature changes and my phone is completely unreliable. This was a great phone before the IOS 11 update, what is Apple doing here?

I DEFINITELY believe that this is purely a software issue!

I find it strange that no-one from Apple is responding to any of these concerns, don't they read these messages?

I found a support website set up by a guy that used to work for Apple and he seems to know what he's talking about.

I would suggest following his suggestions and if your battery problem is still not fixed then you will need to go to an Apple store and get it tested.

Here is the link: https://www.payetteforward.com/why-does-my-iphone-battery-die-so-fast-heres-the- real-fix/

I just followed his instructions and will see how it works, everything he suggests is reversible so it's worth trying.

Good luck!
