Q: Bought used Macbook Air, iMovie is gone, download not working...

Hi, I bought a used MacBook Air (Early 2015). The iMovie is gone, which I saw from a previous forum seems to be standard.  So I tried downloading it, through iTunes, but it won't let me.  When I click on the iMovie icon, it says something like: item purchased but not downloaded.  Click "Check for available downloads", but nothing happens.  So now I've wasted an hour trying to figure this out and it's quite frustrating...thanks for any help in advance...

iMovie (and iLife applications) are bundled free with a newly purchased Mac to the first owner and the applications are registered to their unique Apple ID.   This is not extended to subsequent owners of the computer who have to buy the application.

"When I click on the iMovie icon, it says something like: item purchased but not downloaded"

I'm not quite clear - the message suggests that you have purchased iMovie under your Apple ID but not been able to download it - is this correct?

If you go to the Purchases tab in the App Store does iMovie appear?    Could it be hidden?  see: Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support
