Q: Smart keyboard stopped working post keyboard update

I applied the smart keyboard update that came out the past week or so. I was on a fully updated iPad Pro (9.2.1). The update appeared to go smoothing.

 

Now my smart keyboard does not work at all.

 

I tried:

 

1) Hard reset (holding down lock and home button until device shut down) then restarted

2) Restore from backup

 

In each case, I tried multiple times to reconnect the magnetic keyboard - the iPad Pro is just not seeing it. I used a dry cloth and brushed off the connectors in case there was some detritus in the way. This problem (in my mind) appeared just after I applied the keyboard update. I suspect the keyboard update was firmware and thus is why the iPad restore from backup didn't fix the problem (i.e. there is perhaps no way to restore the keyboard firmware...)

 

I called Apple support - it took me a while to get them (both first level support AND second level support) to understand that this was the iPad Pro and the Smart Keyboard that was released last fall. They kept trying to fix my bluetooth keyboard problems despite my multiple explanations "No, this is the iPad Pro and the Smart Keyboard released last fall and that my bluetooth keyboard works just fine.

 

Very disappointing. My keyboard is still within the support window. I may ask for a refund.
