El Capitan & Canon PixmaPro9000 photo printer problem

upgraded my iMac late 2012 desktop to ElCapitan and Canon PixmaPro9000 photo printer no longer prints photos from Apples photo program with correct color. Each photo is shades of yellow and some black. The printer will print black and white word documents. I downloaded software from Canon per others recommendation for this problem but it doesn't fix the problem. Help! please don't tell me I need a new printer

I would like to check the configuration of your Pro9000. Please open an application called System Information, located under Applications > Utilities. In the left column select Printers. If this is the only printer on this Mac then its information will appear in the right pane. If you have more than one printer, select the Pro9000 from the top right pane to see its information in the bottom right pane. Please select all this information, copy and then paste back here so I can check it.

Thanks for the info. It shows there is a mix of versions between the driver and supporting files. So I would like you to remove the Pro9000 from Printers & Scanners and then open Finder and in the menu bar select Go then Go to Folder. Then copy the following line of text and paste it into the Go field.

/Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter

Then press the Go button. This will change the Finder view so that you see all the subfolders of the BJPrinter folder. Select all of these folders and trash them. Then restart the Mac and when you have logged back in, open System Preferences and select to add the printer. Note that you may get a prompt to download the driver from Apple. Agree to this. Once the driver has installed I suggest you run a nozzle test. From Printers & Scanners, select the 9000 and then click on Options & Supplies. Then select the Utility tab then click on the Open Printer Utility button. With the Canon IJ utility open, select the Test Print menu then Nozzle Test. This will output a page showing all 8 colours patches. Check that all have printed. If some have not printed correctly then you will need to perform a deep clean via the Clean menu in the Canon utility.

thanks for your reply. I followed your directions and it is still not printing accurate colors The photos all have yellow tones and overall all the color are way off. (printing from Apples Photo) When I print a word document in color the same problem. Ive tried both ColorSync and Canon Color matching and they print the same. I don't know what else to try. Im afraid that the printer just doesn't work with ElCapitan cause Canon doesn't have a driver to support ElCapitan. It works for black and white printing but not photos. SO unhappy how it forces you to buy a new printer!!! Any other ideas on how to fix it? Has anyone succeeded in getting this printer to print photos with ElCapitan?

Okay. I missed this before but when you mentioned the lack of a supporting driver I checked the System Information again and can see that you have a Pro9000 but you are using a Pro9000 Mark 2 driver. This is the cause for the colour issue. The last driver that Canon released for the Pro9000 was for OS X 10.9. There is a chance that you can still use this driver on 10.11 so here is a link to that driver. You will have to follow the same process I described above to remove the Pro9000 Mk II driver before you install the Pro9000 driver.

If the old 10.9 driver does not work on 10.11 then there are two driver alternatives available. The first is free and is known as Gutenprint. This driver suite is supported on 10.11 and the Pro9000 is listed as a supported printer. However as the driver is free it has been known to have issues with colour accuracy. The solution is the second alternative which costs €49 and is called Printfab. Note that there is a 30day trial so you can check that it does work to your liking. And it is far cheaper than a new printer of this sort of quality.
