if its totally yours (meaning its paid off) you can just call your carrier and they'll give you the code and voila its unlocked

If your carrier provides unlocking (not all do) contact them for requirements.   Apple doesn't carrier unlock iPhones.

You also can't use a code to unlock your iPhone.

by a code i mean the "sim code" that unlocks the phone to be able to be used to "unlock to carrier" meaning you can use it with another carrier for example i have an AT&T iPhone, i paid it off, and now want to take it to tmobile now i can do that

as long as the other carrier uses a sim card then you can transfer it to their service

That is not how iPhones get unlocked. If a carrier unlocks an iPhone, they notify Apple. The end user then restores the phone as new and, viola, it is unlocked. There is never a code involved.

A SIM PIN is a completely different sort of code and has nothing to do with carrier locks.

call your network provider or wireless carrier to request it. once you received a message that they unlock the iPhone you need to do a back up and restore so the iPhone will activate as unlock and will let you use any SIM card on it

As has been told to you several times (this time I will shout) IPHONES ARE NOT CARRIER UNLOCKED WITH A SIM CODE OR ANY OTHER KIND OF CODE. DO YOU GET IT NOW?

I won't explain how iPhones are unlocked, because that has been posted several times. I WILL link to Apple's help article on the process: How to unlock your iPhone for use with another carrier - Apple Support

iPhones DO NOT use unlock codes.

Stop giving out wrong information. iPhones are not unlocked by "codes" given out by a carrier to the user.
