Q: where is my files - dont laugh :-)

I have Mac Mini with OS X server, updated to the latest version, and a bad administrator (me :-)

In server Admin, in File Sharing, i have a few shared

  some are folders

  some are directly hard drives  (3 of them)

except one...

called Transporter,

the path is written as  /Volumes/Transporter

but the icon makes me think it is a folder and not the root of a hard drive.

using server App, I can't browse it.

in terminal doing a diskutil list  or using Disk Utility

there is no drive, by that name

but in terminal going to /Volumes/Transporter works

from another mac, I can connect to this Transporter Drive/Folder shared

Get info on the drive tell me it is 250 GB with 150 GB free, which is the SSD drive of the mini.

Putting a file with a distinctive name into that shared, and doing a Get-Info on it, the owner name is not the username I connected with, but another one.

Back to the mini,

In spotlight searching for that file, find nothing

but in terminal, doing a

find / -name "theFilename"

i get the whole  /Volumes/Transporter/... etc

doing a

sudo sharing -l

I get

name: Transporter

path: /Volumes/Transporter

  afp: {

    name: Transporter

    shared: 1

    guest access: 0

    inherit perms: 0

  }

  ftp: {

    name: Transporter

    shared: 0

    guest access: 0

  }

  smb: {

    name: Transporter

    shared: 1

    guest access: 0

  }

where is this folder :-)

how can I get more info on the real path ?

    Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide /Volumes/ as the path; if desired, drag the Transporter item out of it. If an attempt is made to access a drive when it's unavailable, a folder may be created where the volume would have been.

    I totally forgot about the Go to folder , thank you

    It is true that I used to have a drive but that name, share by my Mac Pro (my old server)

    I never heard about that "copy in case drive is unavailable", but  is sure look like it:-)
