You may have something corrupt on your device that has caused "other" data to grow out of control. You can only see this storage when you are connected to iTunes. Sometimes, restoring a backup can help. Sometimes, you have to restore as new.

thanks Dilbert. It was painful. When my device started to gulp gbs in seconds, i thought something is wrong with my phone. I erased the entire data, restored it through itunes; same issue persisted; gbs going down!!!! then i thought maybe my itunes has an issue, erased the entire data by doing a factory reset and restored through icloud. Again the available space went down like crazies. I was running from pillar to post to sort this issue but to no avail. After reading your suggestion, i immediately deleted whatsapp. The memory immediately came back to normal.. thanks a bunch...the question remains, when will whatsapp fix this bug? care to shed any light on that? i have written to them with my issue as well... apparently alot of whatsapp users have reviewed it in a similar fashion..
