Q: Unable to find AirPorts with AirPort utility or AirPlay but WiFi works Windows 10 (possibly AirFoil related)

I just installed Windows 10 from on my HP dm4 Notebook yesterday.  I'd had network issues AirPlaying on the same Notebook with my old version of Windows 7 which wasn't a problem anymore after upgrading.  I had originally had AirFoil 3.5.3 installed on my computer, tried using it yesterday and it suggested I upgrade to 3.6.7. When I did and restarted I couldn't view any of my AirPorts, or AppleTVs on AirFoil any longer. It suggested I upgrade to AirFoil 5. I did. They were still missing. Uninstalled AirFoil, then noticed the AirPlay icon wasn't available in iTunes any longer, opened AirPort Utility and couldn't view any of my AirPorts(Express, Extreme, & Time Capsule).

The WiFi has not had any issue through any of this.

I have tried:

Uninstalling and reinstalling AirPort Utility

Reinstalling and uninstalling all versions I had had of AirFoil

Turning off Windows Firewall

Installing and running Microsoft.net Framework 4 repair tool

Emailing AirFoil support for any sort of help to no response

A weird thing: twice now I've put my PC to sleep, come back to look at the problem and upon signing in AirPort Utility which was left running will show my AirPorts for about a minute before they disappear.

Only this computer is having issues with the AirPorts & AirPlay.

I would really prefer not to reset my PC, but will if I have to. I wish I'd had the foresight to set a system restore point yesterday morning.

Uninstalled AirFoil, then noticed the AirPlay icon wasn't available in iTunes any longer, opened AirPort Utility and couldn't view any of my AirPorts(Express, Extreme, & Time Capsule).

It's possible that the removal of the AirFoil application may have, unintentionally, deleted some required files for the AirPort Utility.

    Try the following:

    • Delete the following file from the C:\Windows\System32 folder: dnssd.dll (Note: This is the Bonjour Client Library and is required by the AirPort Utility. If this file is missing would be one reason why you are having issues with the utility. However, even if it's present, it may not be properly registered in the Window Registry. That is, as far as Windows is concerned, it doesn't exist.)
    • Download the AirPort for Windows installer. (Note: This utility has not been updated since Windows 7, but it will still run on the newer versions. One major exception: It WILL NOT work for administering the latest 802.11ac base stations.)
    • Run the installer using "Run as administrator" privileges. (Note: If you get the option to Repair or Uninstall, choose the Uninstall option. Allow the uninstall process to complete. The Bonjour application should now be missing in the Apps & Features listing.)
    • If you didn't get the Repair/Uninstall dialog window, then just let the installer install AirPort for Windows in its default folder.

... as far as AirFoil, you will have to wait for their support folks to contact you.

I tried what you suggested. After I ran the uninstall the Bonjour application was still in Apps & Features. I then uninstalled it and reinstalled AirPort for Windows. Tried also uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. The AirPlay icon in iTunes still does not show and neither do any of the AirPorts show in AirPort Utility. WiFi is still unaffected.

For AirFoil I will not try installing that again on my computer again.

With AirPort Utility for Windows installed there should be two entries in the Apps & Features page: AirPort and Bonjour.

With the AirPort Utility, did you try the File > Configure Other... option to "find" your base stations? With this option you would enter the LAN-side IP address of the base station in the IP Address field and the base station's administrator password in the Password field. By default, the AirPort base station's IP address is: 10.0.1.1

I had tried the Configure Other option to no avail yesterday. However, after taking my Notebook out of sleep mode today, all of the problems have mysteriously disappeared. I'm able to AirPlay again and view all of my AirPorts again in AirPort for Windows. I'm setting a System Restore point now to be safe. Only thing that has changed is which AirPort on my network I am currently closest to. This makes me wary and I will update if the issues resurface. For now I'm just glad it's working and have to really say thank you Tesserax. You are indeed awesome
