Q: Unable to send or be added to Group chats

I am IT support for a Mac based company that uses Messages all day to communicate internally.  It was brought to my attention today that several users are unable to initiate a group chat, other users are unable to be added to an existing group chat, and still other users are not getting the notification that others send to join the group chat. All users have quit Messages and a couple have restarted their machines, still not working. Anyone know how to resolve this?

We are using a mixture of Mac Minis and iMacs running Yosemite and El Capitan.  At least one machine of each configuration is having the same issue.

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

    Hi,

IF using Bonjour for chatting it does not support Group Chats.

There is also no ink between iMessages and Bonjour other than being Account types within the same App.  (i.e. everyone should be on iMessages)

I use Little Snitch which is an App that can ask and Allow connections that apps make, telling you which Ports and IP addresses it is trying to connect to.

These are some of the related processes.

The highlighted one is for iMessages and as you can see it also uses identyservicesd to check the the Login details.

Any other sort of Firewall should not block these processes.

My own personal experience is that the Mac version  does not allow people to join chats that have been started or to leave a group chat.

It seems this feature has not made it across from the iOS version where you can leave a group chat and rejoin if required.

I would also try Safe Boots and reset the NVRAM on the effected devices.
