I have 5GB of iCloud storage. Can I backup my calendar with that? It's not working.

It says it's not enough storage, but the only thing I have checked off to backup is my calendar.

I have Verizon storage too, so I don't need everything backed up under Apple. I would really like to backup my calendar, reminders, and notes, but it's not enough storage. What is enough storage for those items?

iPhone 6, iOS 9.2.1

You may already have complete backups (or something else) taking up iCloud storage. The following may help with that: Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support

Also note (if you aren't already aware) that there is a difference between backing up and syncing. Going to Settings > iCloud > Calendar and turning that on will sync the calendar to iCloud. With syncing, any change made on the phone will also be made almost immediately to iCloud.

Backup is controlled via Settings > iCloud > Backup.
