My iMac desktop is currently running Version 10.6.8 I purchased 10.8 to update, but I get a message saying it cannot be downloaded. Any troubleshooting ideas?

Thanks. This is your model Mac. It came with Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and can run all versions of OS X up to El Capitan. I just wanted to be sure we weren't talking about an older iMac that couldn't run an OS higher than Lion, 10.7.

That problem eliminated, it may simply be that Apple's servers are holding up the download. That seems to be happening somewhat frequently. I presume you've gotten your emails for your purchase of Mountain Lion. One of them has the redemption code. Open the App Store app on your Mac. On the lead page to the right is the Redeem link under Quick Links. Click Redeem and enter the code in the email. That should initiate the download.

I've asked the hosts to remove your image since it shows the Mac's serial number and UUID.

That's how I've been trying to download it. I tried El Capitan first and that one wouldn't download either, so I bought Mountain Lion instead.

Can't tell you what's going on there. If you have an Apple Store near you, it may be a good idea to go there and help you get a clean download of Mountain Lion or El Capitan.

We can only make guesses for the installation of Office 2011, but that's possibly worrying. Like a dying hard drive, or it's simply out of room. How much free space do you have left on the startup disk?
