you recently requested a password reset

For the 2nd time this week I have received the following message:

"You recently requested a password reset for your Apple ID. To complete the process, click the link below...."

The message goes on to say that I should change my password and review my security settings if I did not make this request. This is a rather worrisome and a hassle. Every time I change my password I have to change it on several devices and often have to change it more than once. Is there some security setting that I need to change?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

I don't think it is a scam. When I hoover over any of the links with my cursor, they all are apple.com. The "reset now" link goes to https://iforgot.apple.com/verify/email? followed by a long string of numbers. Just to be safe, I went to my iCloud page and changed my password there. If I go to iforgot.apple.com and click on the link for forgotten password, I get the exact same e-mail. Thus my conclusion that on at least 2 occasions, someone has done the same with my email address. Not sure how they would get my password in the process, but why else would Apple be sending me these notices?

Third time I have gotten this message in the last 3 weeks:

Dear Dan Bryant,
You recently requested a password reset for your Apple ID. To complete the process, click the link below.
Reset now >
If you didn’t make this change or if you believe an unauthorized person has accessed your account, go to iforgot.apple.com to reset your password immediately. Then sign into your Apple ID account page at https://appleid.apple.com to review and update your security settings.

Tired of resetting my password!

I hope you realize that if you actually have not reset your password, this message may likely be a scam to get your Apple ID and password. This has nothing to do with security settings. When you do change your password then you do have to make changes on every device and computer that you have. If you are making the change for actual security reasons, then be sure to change your passwords for all your online accounts and inform your credit card providers.

If you are changing it because you cannot remember it, then I suggest s memory course or write it down somewhere. There really is no reason to forget them.

When I just made the request to reset my password, the response came within 30 seconds. I do know that it can be slower at times. Still, I have not made such a request of Apple ever. That is one password I don't have trouble remembering! (And I use 1Password for all my passwords anyway, so normally don't have any reason to request a password reset).
