External Display Order Priority

I'm using FCP X 10.2.3 on OS X 10.11.3 on a 27 inch iMac Late 2012. i7 3.4, 32 GB RAM, 2GB VRAM GTX 680.

I have two external displays attached to the iMac. The center display is set as the main one in System Preferences.

When using FCP X I can "Show Events On Second Display". Selecting this moves them over to the iMac display. It seems to have some kind of automatic priority selector. Issue is, I really want them on the vertical display. If I try dragging that panel to the vertical display, as soon as I select it it hides, for some reason. Here's what that looks like in action: https://youtu.be/pj3FjcfaXFs

So, the goal is to get the secondary display option to point to the vertical display instead of the iMac WHILE maintaining the center display as the primary display.

I've already tried:

  • Changing primary display, setting it up, and then changing it back. It resets automatically when you change the primary display.
  • Unplugging a monitor and setting it up. Once again it resets when the monitor reconnects.
  • Switching which display plugs into where.
  • Turned off "Displays have separate Spaces". Didn't make a difference to FCP X after re-login so turned it back on.

None of that worked. Anymore thoughts? Someone mentioned SwitchResX which looks interesting, but I'm not seeing how it could help in this situation.

Already tried unchecking that, but unchecking it made no difference.

Moving the menu bar to the iMac does make the vertical screen the secondary one and the panel goes strait there, but there my main screen is to the right not the center. Also for testing sake, I then tried moving the panel from the vertical screen to the ultra wide screen and it did the same thing, snapping back to the vertical one once I clicked on it.
