Xsan clients must access storage via Fibre Channel.
Xsan clients on OS X El Capitan may also access storage via the network when mounting a Quantum StorNext volume as a Distributed LAN Client (DLC). When using DLC, it should not matter what type of storage is in use on the StorNext disk proxy servers as long as it is supported by StorNext. Quantum can tell you what storage StorNext supports.
