MacBook 13" (2009) bluetooth will not connect to some speakers or mice.

MacBook 6.1 , system 10.11.3 will not connect to some bluetooth devices. The only bluetooth devices it will connect to is my Magic Mouse and iPhone however I purchased a microsoft bluetooth mouse. My iPhone sees it but my MacBook doesn't. I have an older bluetooth speaker that I've never been able to connect and again my iPhone will. ???????? why.

MacBook (13-inch Late 2009), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), 8gb Memory, 500gb SSD (samsung)
