How to Open .ptx files on mac using Pixar's ptxview

I want to open .ptx files on Mac using Pixar's ptxview. On windows by right clicking on file and choosing Open With and navigating to where the ptxview app is located they can be opened. But on mac I can't choose a unix executable file for opening .ptx files. How can I make .ptx files open with the executable app that Pixar provides.User uploaded file

From the FAQ it says it's compatible with 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9 but thats where it ends.

No date on the FAQ but there is a 2016 copyright and it mentions RM 20 which is current.

if a brody's suggestion does not correct it I suggest posting in

https://community.renderman.pixar.com/index.html

RM and its components are very specialized pieces of software and very specific to a community of even more select 3D artists and you will have a limited hands on knowledgebase here as to what to do when you start having issues with it, whereas the forum is going to give you users who have had far more experience with.

I'm DL as we speak because there is a free vxf pipeline for Blender! Yay!!! (See, how many people here understood that without a google search?)

if you have not done so already

RMB on the icon and go to

OPEN WITH... in the contextual menu

you'll get possible file associations with that file type

if PtxView is an app in your applications folder you can select it as a default.

otherwise click OTHER

and navigate to the application (provided it's in the applications folder)

Highlight the preferred application and select "Always Open With"

then click Open

User uploaded file

all subsequent times you have a filetype of this kind it should associate with this app, provided it's not a terminal driven thing.

If it is a call from the terminal it might be doable in a script or if you open in the render man app does it know to send the file out to the other app for viewing? I'm assuming this is a viewer for render man mods.

The script thing is probably easy if it comes down to it and someone can post that if that the case, but again only if the process is not an app in a physical location like the screen shot above.
