Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

G5 iMac wont boot

Symptoms: Pressing power button-get white power light on; hard drive starts; no startup chime; optical drive will not accept disk;

fans start and speed up after about a minute; two LEDs on mother board light, no video LED.


Any thoughts on problem and or remedy?

sorry to hear your Mac is not Booting up as expected


Sounds like it could be a Graphic or Ram issue


Have you upgraded or installed additional Ram

About the screens you see when your Mac starts up - Apple Support


Do the Following


1. Shut Down Mac

2. Remove Power cord & usb connections

3.reconnect power cord after 30 seconds

4.reconnnect any essential usb devices (keyboard - Mouse)

5.when booting up

6. immediately after you press power button

7. press and hold , alt , command , P & R keys

8.only release after you hear startup sound for a second time


The about reset the (SMC) System Management controller and (PRAM)

Thanks for your suggestions.

I solved the problem the problem by substituting the hard drive with one that had OS 10.5 already loaded.

It booted up instantly-chime, etc. At boot up I could hear the optical drive reset also so that the drive would accept a dvd.

I had tested the original hard drive using disk utilities while externally connected to another computer and it passed.

After I did the substitution, I retested the original hard drive and it wouldn't even spin up. I guess it was near "death'

when I first tested it.
