I think you need to use iTunes to restore its. There are many junk files and caches there. And when the next update come, do it via iTunes, not directly on your iPhone, because it will take space to save the update installation package.

Delete your Whatsapp application. There is a bug in the Whatsapp software that is causing this issue.

    Best of luck,

Make sure WhatsApp is really gone. Double click on the Home button and on the multitasking window that ensues look for the App. If you see it swipe it up until it is gone, then click on Home once, then do a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it comes up. You will not lose anything. See it this brings your storage to normal. If not try the steps on this article, try the easy ones first and finally a Restore if all else fails.  Good luck...

    SOLVED!

Hello, I've been having the same problem the last day. I couldnt use whatsapp, download apps or take photos. The thing was that no matter how much i erased from mi iPhone, in a matter of minutes the empty storage would be 0 bytes which could not be possible because the storage occupied by apps clearly did not arrived to the iPhone's storage capacity. BUT, after communicating with Apple they provided me a solution, and WORKED!

Apparently, the problem is not with iOS 9.2.1, but  with the new Whatsapp version insteas, that was recently released. They said the had been receiving lots of cases like mine. So what you have to do is follow this steps:

1: Make a backup of your whatsapp chats (if needed to, otherwise, if you dont care about loosing your chats just skip this step). This is done in Whatsapp app in Settings > Chats > Backup. There you can see also when the last back up was made, as you may have it programmed to be done each week. If it has been done recently and you feel nothing important is lost, just dont do it.

2:  Afterwards, delete the whatsapp app.

3: Reboot yout phone by pressing both Home And Sleep botton at the same time until the apple logo appears. They pointed out to me that is important doing it this way and not just turning off and then on the phone. Otherwise it may mot work.

4: When the phone is on again, go to Settings> General > Storage. It may take some minutes, and if this was your problem the memory will start clearing out. (When i turned it on i had 500MB free and two minutes later 14 GB)

5: Reinstall whatsapp and you will be asked if you want to download the chats from the Backup. Remember that restoring from backup is only available in this moment, so do no skip this step because you cant do it later! It may take some minutes.

This solved my problem yesterday and its working fine for me!

Yeah, we know.  That was already stated in this thread and in other posts amongst these forums.

This issue has nothing to do with the iOS version. It is a problem with the Whatsapp application. If you are continuing to have issues with storage disappearing, and you have deleted the Whatsapp application, then something else is amiss. You can reset your device to Factory Settings (after making a current backup in iCloud or iTunes), and set it up as a brand new phone (not from the backup initially) to see if the problem goes away.

If it does not, then you need to make a trip to the Apple Store to have it looked at.

If it does resolve the problem, then reset to Factory again, and then restore it from your backup. If the problem reappears, then it is related to corrupted data on your device, and you will have to reset to Factory again, and then build your phone as a new device. If the problem does not reappear, then you are all set.

    Cheers,

Maybe your brother's cat and my cat are related

So, what you want to do now is make sure that the Whatsapp app is completely deleted, then follow the steps that I provided in the previous post.

Be sure to follow each step - this is an involved process, and your device must be completely erased and restored to Factory Settings to perform the test.

If this resolves the issue, then you are all set. If it does not, then you need to take it in to Apple to have it looked at.

    Best of luck,

Hi! I've been having this problem lately as well (and I don't have the Whatsapp App). My problem started fairly soon after I installed the update (which I'd avoided for a while). Same thing: I'd delete pictures, music, messages, videos--only to have my available storage remain at 0. By the way, the "Other" segment of my phone was well over 6 GB.

Finally, I reset my phone today and "restored" from a full backup I'd made to my computer. (I could never successfully back up to iCloud, although there should have been enough space.) Suddenly, I have 9 GB free. My music didn't sync properly, though, so I'm not sure how much space I really regained.

My big problem is, I suddenly have duplicates of some photos on my phone. And that is such a headache in itself that I think I'm going to erase and try to restore again. I'm hoping that my iCloud settings are what caused the duplicates? I suppose that is a different thread. Mainly, I wanted to add my observation that I don't think the Whatsapp App is the only source of the problem. . . .

Are you using iCloud Photo Library on your phone? (Do you have iCloud Photo Library turned on under Settings>Photos & Camera?

You know, it's interesting that you ask: I HAD been using the iCloud Photo Library, but I decided to turn it off right before I did the erase/restore, I have been importing pictures to my laptop, and--with as many pictures as I have on my phone--I was running out of iCloud storage, anyway. When I tried to turn off Photos in the iCloud menu, I was told that iCloud was still updating photos. I waited a while, and then I did turn it off (but I was warned not to). Maybe I should have waited? I'll confess that I don't really get the iCloud to Photo Library interface.

Fortunately, there weren't that many duplicates, so I deleted those one by one. Even though I haven't put all my music back on yet, I do think the erase/restore did help with space? My "Other" has dropped to 300 MB, down from 6.5 GB. I'm about to go on a trip, so I really need my phone to be functional. Now, I'm trying to weed out photos.
