Mail Add Account Error - Account Already Exists

Using El Capatain. In the Mail App in iMac I cannot see an email account. It does not appear in Mail Accounts or in Preferences. When I attempt to add the email as a new Account, I receive the error "Account Already Exists". How can I add or see this email account which for some reason disappeared and I cannot see it again?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

First, please make sure you don't have two accounts with the same address. That could happen if one of them is an iCloud account.

From the Mail menu bar, please select

Window ▹ Connection Doctor

In the window that opens, look for an SMTP (outgoing mail) account with a name that matches the account you're trying to add. Double-click it. Another window will open, showing a list of all the outgoing mail accounts. Click the minus-sign button to delete the matching one, then click OK.

Try again to add the mail account. If you still can't, log out or restart the computer, then open the Internet Accounts preference pane and see whether the account is listed.

I didn't locate the account in Connection Doctor. I then restarted the iMac and went to Internet Accounts. The account was not showing but when I attempted to add this as a Mail Account, I typed in the email address and password and received the error "This account already exists".

Would you have any other suggestions to either completely delete this account (so I can recreate it) or somehow be able to access it in Mail?

I'm not sure. I cannot locate the original email address in Mail, Mail Preferences, Connection Doctor or Internet Accounts but when I attempt to add the email address in Mail or Internet Accounts I keep getting a message stating "This Account Already Exists". I would like to be able to see this account, or be able to delete it and then add it again. Thanks for your help.

Please back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/Accounts/Accounts3.sqlite

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. Log out or restart the computer and empty the Trash.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You may not see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Some people have found that they get this error if the server is in their SMTP server list. To check if this is the situation for you, go to Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts -> Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) -> Edit SMTP Server List...
