Q: Siri can't find apps or play music

Just upgraded to the 6s and am having some issues with Siri.

It can't open any of my apps (most comically, the App Store - see attached image) or play any of my music. I'm able to fix the problem by disabling Siri, rebooting my phone and then enabling Siri again BUT as soon as I switch 'Hey Siri' back on, it plays dumb again.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Toby

    Hello tjknight83,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

If you are having difficulties with Siri opening applications, you can take a look at the following article for assistance:

Use Siri on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    Specifically the following section:

    Get help with Siri

    • If "Hey Siri" isn't working, make sure that "Hey Siri" is turned on under Settings > General > Siri.
    • Siri might say, "Sorry, I'm having trouble connecting to the network," or "Try again in a little while." This is probably a network issue. Check your Internet connection and try again later.
    • If Siri isn't available or responding to questions, see the next section.

If Siri isn't available, or doesn't understand or respond to questions

After each step, see if you still need help:

    1. Make sure that your iOS device has an Internet connection through Wi-Fi or cellular data.
    2. On your iOS device, make sure that Siri is turned on under Settings > General > Siri.
    3. Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
    4. On your iOS device, go to Settings > General > Siri and turn off Siri. Then turn it on again.
    5. Make sure that the microphones on your device aren't blocked. For example, if your device has a protective case, remove it.
    6. If you're using an iOS device, try to use Siri with a headset. If Siri works, get more help with the microphones on your device.
    7. Contact Apple Support.

If Siri doesn't make a sound when you hold down the Home button

On your iPad or iPod touch, Siri will chime when it's time to ask a question. If you have an iPhone with iOS 9 or later, Siri will vibrate instead. You'll only hear the chime on your iPhone with iOS 9 or later when you're using headphones.

Siri will also chime when you use "Hey Siri" on a device with iOS 9.

    Best regards.

    Thanks for your help, Jeff.

This is all pretty basic stuff, which I appreciate you still need to ask, but it's definitely none of those issues.

Contacted Apple Support, who want me to reset to factory settings. Given that Siri has not worked properly from the outset, I'm not 100% sure this will fix it and it's a massive headache to have to do.

Just hoping to find some others who've encountered the same issue and know what to do...

    Same problem.

SIri works for wheather or football scores, not for music, clock, etc.

for example, it won't set a timer. I tried everything, no luck.

but in the Apple Watch connected to the same iPhone Siri is perfect. Same on an iPad on the same wifi network.

Same problem here, even worth :

    • Siri cannot play music
    • Siri cannot send a imessage to a contact
    • Siri cannot call a contact
    • Siri can tell me how time is it
    • Siri can tell me the meteo

In fact, siri is falling to do anything related to my data (contacts, music, events...).

Yes, I'm having the same problems. Also, when I ask Siri to "send a text to my wife" it says it doesn't know who my wife is, despite my spouse being set in Contacts. And it can't find her by name in Contacts.

There’s a few threads on this same subject.  I have found a fix for this issue which worked for me, and I’d be keen to see if it works for other readers of this site.  Please see fix at https://discussions.apple.com/message/29907793#29907793.

Great! I eventually solved mine simply by restoring to a previous iCloud backup (even though Siri wasn't working at the time the backup was made). That was a couple of days ago and it's still fine. Should have posted here earlier - sorry!
