Q: iPhoto Application Files

Yesterday I had to have El Capitan totally reinstalled on my 27"-iMac at the Genuis Bar. The computer was wiped clean and I am now restoring my files from Backblaze (which is taking forever). I can't remember which operating system changed iPhotos to Photos, but I before I had to wipe the computer clean, I still had the iPhotos application on my Mac and used it to open iPhoto libraries that I had saved to an external hard drive. There are two folders within Pictures folder in my library on Backblaze, one for iPhoto Library.photolibrary and the other, Photos Library.photoslibrary. I have everything downloaded from the first mentioned (the iPhotos Library) but am unable to open them library within Photos. I need iPhoto. So my question is, what files do I look for in my backup on Backblaze that are for the iPhoto application itself. I want to download them and reinstall iPhotos on my "almost like new Mac."

    That is good.

    You need also the iPhoto application from the folder "Applications", iPhoto version 9.6.1.

     

    The application bundle should contain everything that is needed to run iPhoto.

     

    And if you already had iPhoto 9.6.1 installed, you should be able to reinstall from the Mac App Store. Look at the Purched tab of the AppStore, if you are seeing iPhoto, when you sign in with your AppleID.  You may need to unhide iPhoto.

    There is something wrong then.  What happens when you try?  Photos for Mac should be able to open an iPhoto Library and to migrate it.
