Q: Mail stuck in loop. Cant even access Mail preferences!
Good morning to you all. Can anybody help? I am trying to set up Mail (to replace Thunderbird) as I want to use the Sync possibilities with Mail on my other Apple devices. The title says it all and I attach a screenshot of what I see. Impossible to do anything except Force Quit can't even open Mail Preferences!. I am on iMac with El Capitan Version 10.11.3 Mail Version 9.2 (3112). Henry

SOLVED: I have a Macbook and Mail on it was fine just not set up. I found and copied from the Macbook to the iMac <accounts.plist > found in Library / Mail / V2 / Mail data. To find Library hold option key and click 'Go'. Library will appear as it is often hidden in that 'Go' list). Worked a treat. I believe you can delete <accounts.plist > and Mail will recreate a fresh one but I haven't tried that.
