Keyframes with right angle weirdness

Question

Between two keyframes the path takes a turn.

If I click/drag either point around the frame the right angle remains.

Setting each keyframe to smooth and manipulating the handles makes no difference.

Anyone seen this weirdness before?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Try holding Option-Command as FCP X starts.

Reset the Preferences.

I recognize the pattern -- it's a "Constant" value (step) change, but I didn't think it was possible in FCPX. What are you keyframing?
