I have just loaded Photoshop Elements 14 on to my computer and can use it pretty well, but I notice some of the windows are not as they appear in my kelby Elements book. Am wondering if the processor in this Mac is quad core, as that is what they say it needs.
Should be if the computer was made from 2008 onward. What is the model you have? If you have a MBP you likely do not have a quad-cord processor. But there is no way to know unless we know exactly what model you have and how the hardware was configured when you bought it. For example, is it an i3, i5, or i7 CPU. You can get answers for most of this by selecting About This Mac from the Apple menu.
Probably earlier than the i series, a Core2 perhaps.
I have an i3but don't know what MBP means - those letters do not appear in About This Mac.
MBP=MacBook Pro
And 2008 MBP's do NOT have an i3.

So it's an iMac, which also does NOT have an i3
Can you start by telling us which Mac you actually have, this guessing game is a waste of time.
Actually, there are several iMac models that use an i3 processor, including the Mid 2010, the Late 2011, and the Early 2013.

So, what version of the iMac does the OP have, take a guess.
FWIW, Intel i3 CPUs are Dual Core. But I don't think the fact that the pictures don't match is an indicator of anything.
Photoshop 14 runs fine on i3s or Core M CPUs.
Just to add, yes i3s are 64bit.
