Q: Playing Offline Apple Music on Sonos

Hi,

So I've subscribed to Apple Music and I have a new Sonos Play 5. Our wifi network is pretty good throughout the house, but our internet service drops out periodically.

So here's the question:

While using the Sonos app on my phone at home, how do I make sure Apple Music is playing the downloaded, offline file of songs or albums. When the internet service fails, if the music is coming from a streaming source, the music stops. I want to tell Apple Music to play downloaded versions, not streaming. This is tricky if the downloaded versions are on my home computer but not on my phone, when I'm controlling the Sonos app from the phone.

Make sense? Tell Apple Music specifically to NOT stream when I select from "My Music". I know it's up to me, then, to make sure the things I want to play offline are downloaded.

Thanks.

My iPad Sonos App has a button that lets me choose music that is on my iPad. That music is streamed directly from my iPad not from Apple. It also has a button labeled my music. My music collection is on my desktop computer and I’ve configured my Sonos setup to look for my music on my desktop computer. Music I select from my music is not streamed through the internet. My third choice is Apple Music. My entire music collection is in Apple’s cloud as well as on my computer and when I select music from the Apple Music icon all that music is streamed from Apple whether it is on my computer or not.

In other words, if you want to play music while Internet access is interrupted, you’ll have to pick it from your iOS device or from your computer, not thru Apple Music.

If you have an iPhone i would recommend you to download the music to your iPhone and when you are on sonos you should see the play music from my phone icon there you will give up the music you downloaded on your phone so you will have always access to your preferred tracks even when offline.

    Hope this helped.
