iPod Touch 5 not syncing with newer cables

I have an iPod Touch 5th Gen that I bought near release date and it will not sync with certain cables. I have my lightning cable that came with my iPhone 6 and that will not sync my iPod but it syncs everything else. it only syncs with the original lightning cable that came with the iPod. I bought some 3rd party cables and they all work fine. Just the ones made by apple after 2014 do not work on it. I find it really weird.
