My MacBook Pro stops when I first start it up.

When I start up my MacBook Pro, my name comes up and I put in my password. The system starts to load and about half way through the process it stops and does not go any further no matter how long I wait. I then press the power button until the computer turns itself off and after a while I turn it back on. Again my name comes up and I put my password in and press enter. Immediately it shows the line stopped at the very same place as before. I can't go any further. Has anyone had this problem? And if so what can be done that will correct it?

Hi twirlygirl,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that your Mac is not starting up as expected after you enter your administrator password. We know that issues like this can be frustrating, but we’re here to help.

To continue troubleshooting, I would suggest reading over the information in the following article and try starting up your Mac in safe mode.

Try to start using safe boot (Hold the shift button during start up) and see if you can login that way. There seems to be a corruption in your Library folder.

I've seen this problem before, if you can login with safe boot go to the go menu in the Finder while holding the ALT key and click on library. move the preferences folder on to the desktop and clear the cache folder. reboot and see if it works. I would also recommend doing a disk check using Disk Utility just in case.
