Mar 4, 2016 9:24 PM in response to Pablosmithby Niel,If you're moving loose photo files, drag them there, and if you'll be deleting them from the internal one, keep a copy of them on a second drive.
If you're moving an iPhoto, Aperture, or Photos library, check that the external drive contains a volume formatted as Mac OS Extended, drag the library there, launch the application with the Option key held down, choose it, confirm that it works, and if you'll be deleting it from the internal one, keep a copy of it on a second drive.

May 27, 2016 3:52 AM in response to Nielby HawaiianIslands,What if I click on the hard drive icon and don't see the Mac OS Extended? All I see is Seagate Dashboard 2.0, Set_up.dmg, Set_up.exe, Warranty.pdf.

You are looking at files that are currently on the drive.
When Niel mentioned checking how the drive was formatted he implied that you click on the drive and then select "Get Info" (or use command+i).

May 27, 2016 12:44 PM in response to Duaneby HawaiianIslands,Ok, so it looks like my external hard drive is in the Windows NT Filesystem (Tuxera NTFS) format. I already have some things saved on it from my PC, how can I format it to Mac without losing that existing information. Thank you for all your help!
