Q: turn off keyboard illumination on macbook air

how do you [turn off keyboard illumination on macbook air]?

 

i find settings that allow me to shorten the time before it goes off on its own, but what if i just want it off period.

    1. System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard

     

        Deselect the option “Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light”.

     

    2. Press F5 key on the keyboard repeatedly to the lowest,

        so that all blocks seen on the  feedback graphics are darkened.

     

     

    “You can also turn off the automatic backlighting feature in the Keyboard preferences.

    Deselect the option "Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light" to use the F5 and F6 keys

    to adjust the keyboard backlight independent of ambient lighting.”
