Q: How to remove specific photos from my iPad

How do I remove a certain number of photos from my iPad? Syncing does not give me full control and is very cryptic.

iPad 2, iOS 9.2

Choose Select in Photos, tap on the photos you want to remove and delete them.

    1. If the photos to be removed are in the Camera Roll you can choose Select, then tap on the photos to be removed and finally tap on the trashcan. This moves them to the Recently deleted album where they will reside for 30 days allowing you that time to recover the photos. To remove them permanently repeat the  procedure in the Recently Deleted album.

    2. If the photos are in albums synced from your computer using iTunes. The process is different. To remove entire albums you deselect the albums in iTunes before syncing. To remove individual photos move them out of the albums that are on your computer. Then connect your iPad and run iTunes. When you the iPad with iTunes photos not in the albums on your computer will be removed from the identical albums on our iPad. In other words syncing will keep the albums on your iPad the same as the albums on your computer.

In addition to the excellent information that Ralph9430 provided, here is a support document that will explain the process for both adding and deleting synced photos. For your case, you can click on the box titled Delete synced photos, and it will take you right to the place in the document with instructions.  Sync photos from your computer to your iOS device using iTunes - Apple Support

Thank you so much! I shall try the suggestions with caution as the Apple system is very cryptic and when I have tried to do some editing in the past some very important data was lost. (Contacts that were synced with iCloud) The sync expression doesn't exactly say what it will do!

There are photos in albums that will "select" but the dustbin remains faded! Grrrrr

The Windows file manager was so much more direct and controllable...

    Kind regards
