Q: Problem reinstalling OSX - tried everything

Hi all,

 

I have recently bought a MacBook Pro 13" to replace my older MacBook Pro 15" due to a lot of travel. I've started to prep my 15" to be used by my wife, and I wanted to make a clean install of it so she would feel like she got a somewhat new laptop

 

I followed the instructions on this link: What to do before selling or giving away your Mac - Apple Support

And on step 6 i chose to erase and reinstall to make a clean install following the instructions on the bottom of this page: How to reinstall OS X on your Mac - Apple Support

 

Now, after wiping the drive and choosing Reinstall OSX, I got an error that said I can not do this right now. After a while seeing no way around it i shutdown the computer and I was going for a Internet Recovery. During Internet Recovery I manage to enter and get connected to the Wifi, but after a long time with a spinning globe and no progress bar I get an error displaying 2002F. And I don't see anyway around this error. I do not have an ethernet dongle to connect with a wire as suggested by some forums for this error.

 

The MacBook Pro 15" is from 2012 and I had Yosemite installed on it. I never upgraded it to El Capitan as I was switching computers.

 

I've also tried creating a bootable USB using createinstallmedia from both Yosemite and El Capitan app store downloads. Neither of those bootable USB sticks works.. It boots, but after a while it just shows a circle with a line through it and it just stopps there.

 

How can I install Yosemite or El Capitan (may require firmware upgrade?) to make the laptop usable again, as of now it is completely dead as I see it.

 

Any suggestions are welcome, please help!

    SOLVED: Resolved by using Internet Recovery using an IPhone and a metered connection to get into Recovery Mode. After that I could switch to Wifi to download OSX and perform a reinstall.

     

    The reinstall downloaded Mountain Lion, which is the most likely reason the USB sticks didn't work
