Will Apple upgrade my iMac harddrive to an SSD?

I have an 27" iMac at work, which I believe is a late 2010 model.

It's starting to feel slow, and I'd like to ugprade its HDD to an SSD.

Will Apple perform this upgrade for me if we pay them to service the iMac? I'd prefer not to do it myself.

Ask them. We don't know what they will or won't do. That machine is old. Adding an SSD won't make it run any faster. Only a faster CPU can do that or a new machine. You will have to expect you will have to pay for an Apple SSD at nearly twice the cost if you bought it yourself, but they could not do the work unless they used an Apple part.

Lee, do it yourself. It's not as difficult as some on here make out and it makes a huge difference in startup and app opening times. My 2009 iMac starts from chime to login screen in less than 20 seconds and apps like Word and Excel open instantly. It feels like a new machine. Kappy is right that actual processing time won't improve but not waiting for things to open or save makes things much faster and El Captian is optimized for use with an SSD so there's a difference there too.

Step by step instructions to replace the hard drive are here https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac+Intel+27-Inch+EMC+2390+Hard+Drive+Replacement/ 8919 Your 2010 iMac can actually take an SSD without removing anything but it's more difficult https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+iMac+Intel+27-Inch+EMC+2390+Dual+Hard+Dr ive+Kit/9266
