Can not get iPod touch out of recovery to restore

This is referring to my iPod touch 1.1.5. - When I plug it in to the computer and I open up iTunes this is what comes up on the computer. - iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before it can be used with iTunes. When I restore it says the same thing.
