Q: iPhone 5 can see my video library but not music?

I have an iMac running El Capitan and the latest iTunes. It Homeshares its music and video library successfully to an iPad 3, an aTV3, two iPhone 6's and an iPhone 4S. However it refuses to share music with my iPhone 5, only video.

I have tried signing out and back in on the iMac as well as the iPhone5. Nothing works. Going to the Music app, at the top I have a red silhouette inside a circle in the left corner, a red search symbol in the right. At the bottom I have "My Music", "Playlists", and "Radio". In the main body of the screen is a blue background with the text "Never Miss a Beat". Clicking on "My Music" takes me nowhere. Yet I can go to the Video app and watch any of my collected hours of movies.

Why is this happening and how can I get the music functioning?

iPhone 5, iOS 8

    Hi Chuck,

If you are having issues with Home Sharing on your iPhone 5, I would suggest updating the iOS from version 8 that you show in your profile to the current version 9.2.1.  Here are some additional troubleshooting steps to try:

    Get help with Home Sharing

    Check for software updates

Home Sharing for Music isn't available in iOS 8.4 and iOS 8.4.1. Update to iOS 9.

    Take care,

Sorry Judy, I should have updated that long ago. All my devices are running the latest OS and software, and despite this Home Sharing music to the iPhone 5 fails. Got anything else that might help?

Judy, I can't get any help from that site. I tried to but it just doesn't work. I found that I hadn't registered my iMac to my support profile, but in trying to register the serial number it just kept going back to the same screen asking for the serial number. I tried deleting my old computers, and just got a spinning beach ball.

I still have no idea why this iPhone can readily play video via Home Sharing from my iMac, but can't even see the music on the same machine, same Home Sharing account. If anyone has any ideas on what would help I'd like to hear it.

edit: here's another problem - I initially tried posting that reply to you and it told me "User Grayn280 is banned from posting content to this site". Repeated tries got the same result. I had to reload the page in order to post my reply.
