Q: USB Interface in BMW X1

I am trying to connect my iPhone 6 to my BMW X1 multimedia, to access my music.

I have successfully connected the phone via Bluetooth for phone calls.

When I connect my lightening to USB cable, the phone recognizes the connection, because it asks if I want to allow the device to access my photos.

But the car does not show the USB interface as being connected

Any ideas what else I need to do?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3

    Hello there, FatOldGeezer.

It sounds like you're having issues with your iPhone 6 being recognized with the stereo system on your BMW X1. The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great information for troubleshooting:

Get help connecting your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with your car stereo

    If you're using USB Playback

    1. Restart your iOS device and your car.
    2. Connect your iOS device to a different stereo USB port (if you have one).
    3. Try a different USB cable.
    4. Update your iOS device.
    5. Install any firmware updates for your car stereo.
    6. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a specific third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support.

Thanks for reaching out  to Apple Support Communities.

    Cheers.

The car didn't support Bluetooth music.  The usb lead is just for power - there is a special lead they sell (Media Adapter), which connects the lightening connector on the iPhone to both the USB and AUX-IN sockets.  Not cheap (£57), and there are two so make sure you get the right one.  Not sure how you know, but they sold me part number B61.12.2.287.505, which didn't recognize the iPhone on the USB connection in media display.  I went back in and changed it for part number 61 12 2 408 012 - which looked identical, but did recognize the iPhone on the USB connection (after a few seconds, where it looked like it might not, so be patient).

    Anyway, sorted now.
