Airdrop yosemite

Hi,

I have been struggling for more than 2 days in connecting mac-mac airdrop. Both mac models supports airdrop. They are Macbook pro late 2012. I have installed yosemite in both macs since I need to run xcode 5. Now since I have to transfer about 40gb of files from one mac to another. I thought air drop might be easy solution. But since 2 days I have been struggling to connect through air drop.

Even though the both mac detected and showed in air drops in both macs. I managed to drop file once, and accepted in another mac. The transfer rate was so slow that, the time for completion is about 19 hrs.

But if I connect both to my router and internet connection, now they get detected. Now when I transfer files the same size 20 gb, it shows estimated time 8 hrs. But what I think is this is not airdrop, actually its transferring files through my router.

The main irritated problem I face is it takes long time to detect mac. Even though its detected sometime, now both mac plays hide and sick, sometimes detected in one mac and again lost in another and vice versa.

Hows this problem can be solved? Has anyone faced the same situation. I am just irritated with air drop or this is just buggy feature by apple.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
